Course Lesson: Secret Information And How To Use It

Why is there "secret information?" Why is it often many years before important knowledge and information is made public? To understand this, you have to look at motivations. I'll explain with an example.

There is virtually no evidence heart bypasses and angioplasties extend life, and they kill almost 20,000 people in the U.S. each year. In 1992, Nortin Hadler, MD, professor of Medicine at North Carolina School of Medicine, wrote that no angioplasties performed the previous year were justified and only 3-5% of the coronary artery bypass surgeries done were necessary.

500,000 unnecessary dangerous surgeries! The alternative?

Look at the motivations.

$6 billion per year is made from bypass surgery and balloon angioplasty, and $90 billion from cardiovascular drugs. Chelation is dirt cheap by comparison, so the medical community has a strong motivation to ignore this less profitable alternative.

It goes deeper.

We fail to rationally compare risks and benefits, because we're more comfortable with the familiar - and warned to stick it by those who profit from the warnings. We accept 20,000 deaths from "approved" treatments, but one death from an "alternative" treatment is big news, isn't it?

"Alternative" doctors can be ostracized by the medical community, or sued by patients. Thus, even with safe procedures like chelation, fear of straying from the mainstream is real. No matter how effective they are, "alternatives" often mean more risk and less money for doctors. It's no wonder they stick to the more deadly "standard procedures."

There are relatively few true conspiracies. However, there are many "conspiracies of interests," like the one above, that prevent the public from learning important things.. For example, retailers have no interest in telling you about the latest applied research they use to manipulate you. And how many people have an interest in such dry reading as "Studies In Behavioral Economics?"
